You use it for certain public services and, importantly for students who start working, to register correctly with Revenue.<\/p>\n<h2>Do I need one before I arrive?<\/h2>\n<p>No. If you intend to relocate to Ireland, you normally apply after you are living here. You should also have a genuine reason for needing a PPS Number, such as starting a job.<\/p>\n<h2>How do I apply?<\/h2>\n<p>Adults living in Ireland can apply through MyWelfare with a basic MyGovID account. You are normally asked for proof of identity, proof of address and evidence showing why you need a PPS Number.<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding:24px;background:#f6f7fb;border-left:4px solid #d8a45b;margin:28px 0\"><strong>Job-search tip:<\/strong> an employer should not need your PPS Number just to consider your application.
