Working in Ireland as an international student

Work permission depends on the immigration permission you actually hold. For students on a valid Stamp 2, the current Immigration Service Delivery rules allow casual employment for up to 20 hours per week during term time and up to 40 hours per week during June, July, August and September, and from 15 December to 15 January.

Important: Academic Year study does not mean a job is guaranteed. Your right to work comes from your immigration permission and its conditions.

What this means in practice

You can search for part-time work around your class schedule, but you should arrive with enough money to cover your initial living costs while you settle in and look for opportunities.

Before accepting a job

Check that your immigration permission allows the work, keep within the permitted weekly hours and make sure your working conditions comply with Irish employment law.
