Visa-Required Students

If your nationality requires an Irish visa and you plan to study for more than 90 days, you normally need to follow the Long Stay ‘D’ study visa process before travelling.

Typical sequence

  1. Confirm that the Academic Year route is appropriate for your situation.
  2. Choose the course and start date.
  3. Complete the ISI enrolment process.
  4. Pay the full invoice.
  5. Receive the Letter of Acceptance.
  6. Complete your Irish visa application and supporting documents.
  7. Travel only after your visa is granted.
  8. After arrival, complete any required immigration registration.
Timing matters: Irish Immigration says a Long Stay Study Visa may be applied for up to 3 months before travel. In practice, visa-required students should plan their school booking and payment well before they need the Letter of Acceptance.
